(Published Sunday, Nov. 6, 11:04 pm) With 6.76 percent of the ballots counted, the Supreme Electoral Council (CSE) announced at 10:45 p.m. that President Daniel Ortega is leading with 66 percent of the vote, followed by Fabio Gadea (25 percent) and Arnoldo Alemán, with 7.6 percent.
Candidates Enrique Quiñonez, of the Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance (ALN), and Roger Guevara, of the Alliance for the Republic (APRE), each have less than .05 percent of the vote.
The polling numbers for the legislative National Assembly are similar, with Ortega’s Sandinista National Liberation Front with 65 percent, Gadea’s Independent Liberal Party (PLI) with 25.9 percent and Alemán’s Liberal Constitutional Party (PLC) with 7 percent.
Updated results will be published at midnight.
Sandinista supporters have already taken to the street to celebrate their apparent victory.
