Waving a Nicaraguan flag from the driver’s side window, the inaugural flight of America Airlines flight 947 taxied to its gate in Managua yesterday at 2:30 p.m., carrying 160 passengers from Miami.
The new flight—America Airlines’ third daily flight between Miami and Managua—is welcome news for tourists and frequent travelers, who are already noticing a drop in airfares.
AA flight 947 leaves Miami at 12:55 p.m. and arrives in Managua at 2:30 p.m. It then turns around and departs Managua at 3:45 p.m., arriving back in Miami at 7:15 p.m. The new flight is on a Boeing 737-800.
“American has a long history in Nicaragua, with nearly 21 years of uninterrupted service flying to the country,” said Juan Gómez, American Airlines’ country manager for Nicaragua. “We are thrilled about the additional flight to Managua; it’s the first time since we started flying to Nicaragua that we’re offering three daily flights.”
