Ramos condemns femicides

On International Women's Day, Supreme Court president calls for new national policy against violence against women

(posted March 8, 3:40 p.m.)- Supreme Court president Alba Luz Ramos today condemned the fact that there have been 18 femicides in the first two months of 2012, and called for the elaboration of a new “national policy against violence against women.”

The National Assembly in January passed a new Law Against Violence Against Women, but more is needed to create a new national policy against violence, Ramos said, according to La Trinchera.

The Supreme Court president is calling on the Police Commissioner Aminta Granera to be part of a new commission to form a culture to prevent violence against women and eradicate femicide.
