(posted Nov. 18, 11:40 a.m.)- After exchanging blows for 12 rounds, Nicaraguan boxer Román “Chocolatito” González won by judges’ decision Saturday night to defend his title against Mexican challenger Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada in the Los Angeles Sports Arena in California.

Unlike previous challenges to his title, Chocolatito clearly had a more difficult time defending his belt against Estrada (22-2, 18 K.O.s), who fought valiantly until the final bell and won several early rounds in the judges’ scoring. In the end, Estrada’s performance wasn’t strong enough to convince the ringside judges to strip Chocolatito of his title.

With Saturday’s win, Chocolatito improves his lifetime record to 34-0 with 28 K.O.s. He has now successfully defended his flyweight championship on five occasions.
